Great Harbour Cay is the largest of The Berry Islands at 7.5 miles long by 2.5 miles wide and the most developed. The island is a quiet, simple paradise, with rolling hills, seven continuous miles of beautiful beaches, great fishing and shelling, and one of the best protected harbors in The Bahamas.
t is known for its adventurous creeks, where you can find many species of wildlife, and spectacular cave at Sugar Beach.
The island has key infrastructural elements reminiscent of its past (e.g., roads, airport runway, electrical power, telephone service, golf course, marina) and they are well maintained. The area was originally developed in the mid-1960s, with a marina ringed with waterfront town homes and luxurious yachts, but that only lasted 10 years. Its proximity to the southern United States, together with an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Joe Lee, and a clubhouse providing the best in entertainment, made it the perfect hideaway for the rich and famous of the time.
