Grand Bahama and Freeport

Home » Grand Bahama and Freeport
Located just 56 nautical miles east of Palm Beach Florida, Grand Bahama is the third largest island within the archipelago of the Bahamas. Regarded as the nation’s ‘second city’, Freeport was originally developed in 1955 and is known for its unique mix of business/ city life and classic island living. It is an ocean front city with wide paved roads and miles of well-engineered waterways and canals, bordering beautiful private homes. There are luxury resort centers in Lucaya, Freeport. Some highlights are the Lucayan National Park, Garden of The Groves, pine forests and picturesque beaches. Outside of the city, are many quaint settlements like Pinder’s Point, Eight Mile Rock, Smith’s Point, East End and West End. Freeport is a free-trade zone with a large container trans-shipment port, making it a major hub for shipping lines from all over the world. Popular for second home owners between the 1960’s to 1990’s, there are many bargain condos now on the market for investors, and much undeveloped land. Devastated by Hurricane Dorian in 2019, Grand Bahama is set to be back on the rise.
